Do we have a hard time developing our faith? Are we having trust issues with God? Is it hard to believe once again after what had happened to us? Discover how to increase our faith. Captivate our heart with this fresh revelation from the words of Jesus Himself.
Let us discuss faith with our dear Lord Jesus. In Luke 17, an interesting answer was released by Jesus to His disciples.
5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” 6 And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”
In you read this for the first time, you can react like “Did Jesus hear what they exactly said that he answered commanding the tree?”
Let us cut these verses into pieces.
In verse 5, the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” The use of the word “increase” means there is already faith in them. But they felt it’s not enough. And so they believed that Jesus can say a word that will cause their faith to increase in depth and strength. Are we in this kind of situation in our spiritual growth in the context of believing?
But Jesus answered them “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.” Why would Jesus answer in this manner? Because Jesus knew that He has given them the authority enough to stir up their faith. With the little faith they already have, speak a word or command and it will be done in Jesus’ Name; just like saying to the tree “Be uprooted and planted in the sea”, the tree will obey you. So if you are John, say to yourself “John, increase your faith! John, let your spirit man arise in the Spirit of God. Trust God!” In that manner, we are encouraging ourselves to trust God and increase our faith. If we have a faith like a grain of mustard seed, our body will obey our declaration because of the authority given unto us.
Now if we are discouraged, say to ourselves “Trust God! Don’t be discouraged. Seek God to understand what is happening or what had happened.” In this declaration, we are directing our faith to reach for God and not focus on what is happening. Remember, there is power in our declaration. It can bring life or death.
This is exponential faith! We increase our faith using the faith God deposited in us. It is multiplying the faith that is already in us with itself even if it is like a grain of mustard seed. Square our faith; multiply another faith and another faith and another faith. The exponent is the number of times we practice and declare our authority to increase our faith.
With this principle, clearly and definitely, we can live how Jesus lived! We can even do what Jesus did or even more.
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father…”
Now it is time that we live in this kind of faith! Practice our authority and increase our faith!
